Mark Scarlata

Revd Dr Mark Scarlata is the Vicar-Chaplain of St Edward’s. He came to the church in 2016 after finishing his curacy in Cambridge. Prior to that, Mark had been a full-time pastor at a Congregational church where he lived and grew up in Connecticut (USA). He completed his theological studies at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary (MDiv) and then went on to do a masters at Yale before moving to Cambridge to complete his PhD.

Mark is currently the lecturer in Old Testament and Biblical Theology at St. Mellitus College, London and has published several books on biblical studies. He lives in Cambridge with his wife, Bettina, and children, Nathaniel, Madeleine, and Annabelle. He is a keen cyclist and has climbed many of the Tour de France peaks but most often can be found on the flats of Cambridge. Matthias Grebe

Revd Dr Matthias Grebe is the Associate Vicar of St Edward’s. He is also a Lecturer in Systematic Theology at St Mellitus College, London. Prior to this, Matthias held a Senior Research Fellowship at the University of Bonn, Germany, where he worked on a project on theodicy, the suffering God, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. He is one of the editors of the T&T Clark Handbook on Suffering and the Problem of Evil (2023). 

Matthias read Theology, Philosophy, and Rhetoric at the University of Tübingen, where he also later trained for a professional certificate in psychotherapy (in Viktor Frankl’s school of logotherapy). In Cambridge, Matthias trained for ordination in the Church of England and undertook doctoral work on Karl Barth under the supervision of Prof. David Ford at the Faculty of Divinity. His revised PhD thesis is published under Election, Atonement, and the Holy Spirit (2014). He is married to Victoria and they have three small children.

Paul Anderson

Dr Paul Anderson is the Church Warden at St Edward’s. Paul moved to Cambridge from Scotland in 2011 and has served as church warden at the church since 2018. He is a keen gardener and enjoys cooking, jogging, and playing the violin. He is married to Amani and they have a young son called Luke. As well as looking after buildings and maintenance issues at the church, he works as an academic focusing on anthropology and Middle Eastern studies.

Peter Elliott

Mr Peter Elliott is the Church Administrator at St Edward’s. He is currently completing a PhD in music at Cambridge, having previously been at King’s College London for his master’s degree and the University of Oxford for his bachelor’s. Before embarking on graduate study, Peter worked as a guitar teacher in Northern Ireland for two years.

Peter helps run Scriptorium and also convenes the church’s 20s-30s theological reading group, Lively Discussions. He loves making music, drinking coffee, and exchanging ideas, particularly on how perennial philosophy relates to the historic Christian faith.
