Harvest All-Church Meal: Join us as we celebrate the arrival of Harvest as a congregation on Sunday, 27 September. We will gather for a bring and share all-church lunch directly following the regular morning service. Please use the signup sheet to confirm you will attend and what you plan to bring. If you have questions, please speak to Elizabeth Bam, Olivia Brooks, or Josey Wright.
Cambridge Scriptorium: Scriptorium is a place for postgraduate students to study within a structured framework of prayer, fellowship, and discussion. Our term will reconvene on Tuesday 29 September at St Edward’s, and will meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am-4:30pm throughout the term. Ladies of St Eds: All women of St Edward’s church are invited to share in midweek study, fellowship, and prayer. The group meets every other Tuesday starting on 29 September. Men’s Prayer Group: The men’s group meets every Tuesday at 7pm at St Edward’s for BCP Evening Prayer followed by discussion at the pub. All are welcome to attend.

Hurrahing in Harvest

Summer ends now; now, barbarous in beauty, the stooks arise
Around; up above, what wind-walks! what lovely behaviour
Of silk-sack clouds! has wilder, wilful-wavier

I walk, I lift up, I lift up heart, eyes,
Down all that glory in the heavens to glean our Saviour;
And, eyes, heart, what looks, what lips yet gave you a

And the azurous hung hills are his world-wielding shoulder
Majestic—as a stallion stalwart, very-violet-sweet!—
These things, these things were here and but the beholder

Exciting Holiness — Lancelot Andrewes
Born in 1555 in Barking, Lancelot Andrewes studied at Merchant Taylors’ School and Pembroke Hall (now Pembroke College), Cambridge. After ordination, he held several posts before accepting appointment as bishop, first of Chichester, then of Ely and finally of Winchester in 1619. Andrewes was present at the Hampton Court Conference in 1604, which furthered the reform of the Church of England, and he was also a translator of much of the Old Testament of what is known as the ‘Authorized Version’ of the Bible. His preaching and his writings proved highly influential and his holiness of life and gentle nature endeared him to all who met him. He died on this day in the year 1626 and his remains lie in a church which was then in his diocese of Winchester but is now the cathedral for the diocese of Southwark.
Lord God, who gave to Lancelot Andrewes many gifts of your Holy Spirit, making him a man of prayer and a pastor of your people: perfect in us that which is lacking in your gifts, of faith, to increase it, of hope, to establish it, of love, to kindle it, that we may live in the light of your grace and glory; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
